Norfolk Record Office
New Accessions

The Norfolk Record Office receives about 350 new accessions each year. These vary in size from one sheet of paper or parchment to several volumes or folders of maps and plans. Smaller accessions are usually catalogued on, or shortly after, receipt. However, large accessions can take months, or in some cases, years, to catalogue and process before they can be made available to the public.

The Norfolk Record Office is included in the annual 'Accessions to Repositories' survey by the Historical Manuscripts Commission (HMC). The survey collects information from over two hundred record repositories throughout the British Isles about manuscript accessions received in the previous twelve months. This information is then added to the indexes to the National Register of Archives.

Annual lists of accessions received by the Norfolk Record Office from 1994 are available on the HMC site. References in brackets are either an accession number (e.g. Acc Evans-Lombe 16/9/96, Acc 6/12/96 or Acc 2000/130) or a catalogue reference number (e.g. N/CCH 1-195, BR 237/35-89 or MC 3000). Many of our catalogues are available online via NROCAT or the Access to Archives (A2A) project and searches can be undertaken using the catalogue reference number.
