Talks
We offer a small number of illustrated talks for groups. Each talk is 45 minutes in length, with time at the end for questions.
Our standard talks are:
- The work of the Norfolk Record Office (NRO): We explain how we collect, preserve and make documents accessible to everyone. It includes images of documents demonstrating the breadth and depth of our holdings, from the earliest document (c1090) to the present day.
- Beginning your family history: We talk through how to use and access sources such as census returns and parish registers and how these can help in compiling your family tree.
- Tracing the history of your house: We explore how to use maps, sales particulars and written material to uncover the physical changes to your home and discover its previous inhabitants.
Cost
Each talk costs £180, which includes travel expenses and staff time.
We can also tailor each talk to your group's location or interests: additional research costs £60 per hour.
Booking
Please contact the education and outreach team at norfrec@norfolk.gov.uk if you would like to arrange a talk.
Talks on a variety of topics are also available through the Talks and Speakers Register of our charitable partner Norfolk Heritage and Archives Development Foundation (NORAH) (opens new window).

Working together for all of Norfolk's archives
The NRO isn't just the home of one of the UK's great archive collections, it is also a centre of expertise.
We want to know more about how we can share this knowledge to help you care, preserve and share the county's other great archive collection: the one collected, researched and treasured by local history groups, community archives and individuals throughout Norfolk.
Working in this way we hope we can support and sustain our county's unique archive ecology. If you would like to know more about how we might be able to help one another, please get in touch with us.
