Lists of parish and free church registers
Parish registers
The NRO holds registers of baptisms, marriages, burials and banns of marriage for most parishes in the Diocese of Norwich.
This includes the registers for Suffolk parishes around the Lowestoft area which are in the deanery of Lothingland.
We also have registers for south-west Norfolk parishes in the deanery of Fincham and Feltwell, which are part of the Diocese of Ely.
Records for parishes in the deanery of Wisbech Lynn Marshland are at the Wisbech and Fenland Museum (opens new window).
Welney parish records are held at the Cambridgeshire Record Office (opens new window).
The summary list, arranged alphabetically by parish, lists the dates for which we hold original registers, as well as:
- Microform copies
- Modern transcripts and indexes
- Archdeacon's and bishop's transcripts

Free Church registers and related records
We hold a number of Protestant free or Nonconformist church (ie, non-Anglican) registers and records of birth/baptism, members and death/burial.
The coverage is county-wide but incomplete. This is because non-Anglican churches are under no statutory obligation to lodge their records with any local or national archive.
The one exception is marriage registers from 1837 onwards.
We also hold microfilm copies of Nonconformist registers held by The National Archives (opens new window). These are indicated in the list with the catalogue reference TNA.
This summary is arranged alphabetically by place, then by denomination and then by any known chapel name or street location.
