Introduction to Archives

We hold an Introduction to Archives session once a year. This is suitable for students thinking of studying history or a related subject at university. This is also suitable for current university students looking for work experience and anyone thinking of a change in career. 

The day is split into several hands-on activities to give participants experience of the roles of both conservators and archivists. Participants will:

• Understand how documents are catalogued
• Learn how to access documents
• Discover how to handle documents correctly
• Work on cleaning or packaging to conserve archive material 

Places are limited and must be booked in advance. Look out for details on forthcoming sessions on the events pages on our blog.

Blogging placements

We take placements which allow students to use our searchroom to carry out research and write a post for the NRO blog.

You can sign up at any point during the year, either by joining one of our online training sessions (dates and details are given on our events page of our blog) or by requesting our toolkit by emailing us at norfrec@norfolk.gov.uk.

Next, you are welcome to carry out your research and write a post in your own time. Once we've checked your blog post we'll schedule it for the blog and acknowledge you too.

You are welcome to use your published blog post as evidence of your work experience when applying for various courses.
